Surgery was for a bacterial neck infection that has turned very bad. Potentially life-threatening. Will update as I get more info.

Update as of Thurs am: surgery successful and diseased tissue removed; doctor optimistic for recovery.

@awoolham - No, no, not the groom. Another Xanga friend of both his and mine, though. Thankfully, sounds like surgery was a success.

@oxyGENE_08 - Not entirely clear but it seems Michael tried to "tough out" an infected neck gland instead of getting prompt treatment.
